October 2023

It is hard to be jovial, given the news over the course of this month. I don’t need to (and won’t) give the list of events that are horrible, sad, tragic, or nonsensical.

The list seems to grow daily. What we see are only the events that the Western media outlets are getting paid to beam into our awareness. The events that advertisers pay media outlets to bring to us crowd out stories about many other catastrophic events that advertisers don’t feel will sell products.

Question…

How many people died in the September 11th earthquake that hit Morocco?

Answer?

The death toll is 2,800 and rising.

I get that the manufacturer of Ozempic would rather have you watch the machinations of the U.S. House of Representatives than watch people dig through rubble in Marrakesh.

I take heart in the knowledge that when one looks back over the past 1,000 years of human history, the arc of progress for humankind is positive, relative to human rights, fighting diseases, technological progress and the life span of humans…

So, even when things seem to be spinning out of control, the arc of progress is positive.

We’ve got to live with this confidence.

But we can’t leave it up to everyone else to fix things.

Each of us must step up and do what is right.

Each of us needs to be courageous.

Again…

Keep the faith, and love your neighbor.
